Props, props & more props!

So.... at the start of the year I set myself a challenge... to work only from my huge yarn stash onlying buying more if I REALLY REALLY needed it ie for a custom order. Well that lasted for the whole of about 3 weeks before i was splurging!

Having taken a really good long hard look at my supplies again I am determined to stick to my guns & use what I have, after all there is some seriously good stuff stashed away there ;)

Newborn photography props are something I love to make & I am slowly building up my stock (which can be purchased via fb/twitter & my etsy shop) and the last few days have been spent rummaging & sorting yarns, fabrics etc & coming up with this little lot.... first up were some gorgeous little vintagae style bonnets made from ladies handkerchiefs

Next up were crochet doily rugs in bright summery colours with coordinating bonnets ... I loved making these & they can be used as a posing/layering blanket or I've also seen them used to drape over baby :)

And last but not least are a couple of mini blankets /basket stuffers.... golden yellow has a matching tieback while the pink comes with a bonnet :)

Now I'm off to curl up with more scrummy yarns & see what else I can come up with :)

Orders complete... whats next?

Well today saw me finish the last order I have on my books.... this cute little baby jacket in a traditional aran design... I love knitting these :)
I've knit this 1 in a turquoise dk weight acrylic mix which will allow it to be cosy but not over heat little one & it can be machine washed & tumble dried..and I've finished it with some gorgeous wooden toggle style buttons :)

Now i get to play yay :) I've lots of newborn prop ideas in my head & shall look forward to making some of those :)  Speaking of props.... I received a gorgeous photo this morning of a pair of my upcycled pants in use..... I just love how the colours work so well with the photographers ( https://www.facebook.com/Tinas-Photography-159199784219748/?fref=ts) hammock .. what do you think?

I've also got plans for some pattern designing (!) I've seen a gorgeous paid pattern for a blanket based on fairies but it is really rather pricey - well worth every penny though don't get me wrong BUT as I like to keep my prices down as much as I can I can't really justify the cost... so crochet hook, scrap yarn, pen & paper it is & see if I can come up with something of my own ... wish me luck :)

I'm back :)

So, I've not blogged in years (and thats no exaggeration!)

I think i should start by introducing myself again... I'm Elaine - Hi :) - I am a fibre artist based in Northern Ireland and i make newborn photography props amongst other things :) I am a knitter but have also taught myself to crochet & I also make upcycled items too. I can be found on most of the popular social media platforms

FB - https://www.facebook.com/Knitwitsknits/
Twitter - https://twitter.com/knitwitsprops
Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/knitwitsknits/

and I have a shopfront on Etsy - https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/HandmadebyKnitwits/

I also knit/crochet items for the home & family & am happy to take custom orders :)

I'm hoping with my blog to interact a bit more with newborn photographers & I quite often offer new prop items in exchange for an image or 2 that I can use for advertising so watch this space :)

For now though I am off to do some knitting, I'm currently working on a little aran jacket which will be a gift for a little new baby boy :)

I'll leave you with this cute image of a snuggle sack & beanie hat that i designed for a customer. Thank you for visiting & indulging my rambles :)

Busy Busy!

Oh lookie, i finally remembered to blog!

Well, things have been hectic this last few weeks what with kids off school etc, thankfully, for the sake of my sanity they are back next week!
I have been so busy too, i decided i was going to knit my daughters school cardigan, big mistake! It has been on the needles for weeks & i have managed to complete various smaller things in between like the slouchy beret i recently knit along with a custom order ladies top & more recently i have moved into the "Test Knitting" side of things & have helped a couple of designers with lovely patterns. Current project is more of the same except this time i actually get paid for it woohoo!

I have tidied up my Misi shop a bit, do feel free to browse it & Misi in general as there are so many gorgeous items on there just now!

In the midst of all this chaos, my grandson recently celebrated his 2nd birthday & my husband & I had our 13th wedding anniversary, i shall leave you with a pic of my gorgeous little grandson with his mummy :)

I had a lovely message from Jo of Jolicious Jewels to say i had won her blog giveaway, little parcel arrived this morning and ohh is it gorgeous! i won a beautiful little flip flop charm and a bag of beads! Now, i am a knitter but i am determined to find a use for the beads as they are too nice to do nothing with lol. Have a look at Jo's shop, it is full of gorgeous bits & pieces, my current piece being this beautiful Blue Lariat

Next up is Jean from Talking Beads, Jean was the winner of my blog giveaway and today blogged about the scarf she won, i am so pleased she liked it. Jean Recently had a giveaway on her blog also and myself along with 2 others were lucky enough to be picked to try our hand at bead weaving! I am looking forward to this with excitement & intrepidation, having seen some of the lovely pieces available in Talking Beads shop i do not want to make a mess of it!

It is that time of the year when school uniforms are on everyones shopping list, i have decided this year to knit my 7yr old daughter & 6yr old son their caridgan & jumper! WIsh me luck :)
